Big and small businesses alike are placing an emphasis on the ability of their employees to multi-task. If you’re a freelancer, you probably put yourself under the same pressure. You may even be having trouble sleeping because you’re always thinking about the things you have to get done. When you do fall asleep, you’re only awakened a few hours later by your annoying alarm clock. Sound familiar? Want to put an end to the craziness? Find out how.

Your first step to a more productive day is waking up refreshed. This means you have to get a good night’s rest. When your alarm clock starts ringing only a few hours after you’ve finally fallen asleep, you’re probably not well rested. On the other hand, getting to sleep early giving you enough time to rest will help you wake up well-rested and energetic.

Getting enough rest may take some discipline on your part. You have to avoid the urge to keep working, when you know you’d be better off resting. If you do decide you’re going to work through the night, you should be warned that you’re not working to your full capacity while sleep deprived.

So, once you wake up, do you rush to your home office to get things done? Well, you may have to change this. Doing something that requires discipline like riding your mongoose mountain bike before you start work can help you through the entire day. When you challenge yourself in the morning, you can look back on your accomplishment and think to yourself that if you can do that, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish. What a motivator!

Once you’ve conquered any single on of your diamondback bikes, you can now turn your attention to your breakfast. You’ll need a healthy breakfast to carry you through your day. Think of your breakfast as the fuel that will carry you through to lunch.

Spend time creating a list of exactly what needs to be done. You can do this before you start your work, or have it prepared from the night before. Find out which method works best for you. Reevaluate your task list. What definitely has to get done today, an article, a web design revision, the urge to satisfy a tattoo fever?

After you’ve gone through the pre-work preparation steps, its now time to focus. Do you have to get dressed, even if you’re working from home, to make you feel professional? Do you have to go into your home office to get into your work mentality? Whatever it may be, when you sit down to work, avoid distractions and focus on what you have to get done.
