Bereavement Leave Rights

The future is hard to predict. Sometimes, we’re worrying about things that we shouldn’t worry about. The real problems occur when we least expect it. Tragedies, specifically death of loved ones, can occur and blindside us. This can affect our professional performance at work. However as employee of a company, we are entitled to bereavement leave rights. But we must know the limitations the company has imposed on this matter.

Research shows that almost 90 percent of the companies in the United States grant their employees with bereavement leave rights. However, these companies vary on the use, legibility of the individual, and duration of these leaves. Those who have stayed with the company longer may enjoy more days off to get the things done and to recuperate from this tragedy, and all these are paid. While others may only enjoy a maximum of three days off which are paid by the company. It is in the discretion of the employee whether it is alright for him or her to cut his paycheck just so family time could be had.

Most people wonder whether employers are required to grant their employees bereavement leave rights. There is no question to this because paid bereavement leaves, like holidays, vacation, and sick leave are benefits of an employee working for a company. In fact, this is the very reason why there are no bereavement leave federal laws. The discretion and judgment on the matter only concerns the employers and the company of the employee. If there are issues, then the HR of the company is included.
